Michael Blake

 

Chief Michael Blake comes to the City of Kyle with 35 years of police experience, the last eight years as Chief of Police in Harlingen and Tomball.

     Chief Blake has over 35 years of experience as a police officer, the last eight years as police chief with the cities of Harlingen (2000 – 2002) and Tomball (2002- 2008). His education includes both a Bachelor and Masters of Science from Abilene Christian University at Dallas. He will earn $90,000 a year as Kyle Chief of Police. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia and the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF), Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.

     Chief Blake became Kyle's Police Chief in January of 2008 and inherited a rapidly growing department that currently includes 18 sworn personnel, two reserve officers and nine civilian positions. The City Council approved six new police officer positions in the 2007 and 2008 budgets. These positions are currently in the process of being filled.

    The City of Kyle is now the fifth fastest growing city in Texas with a population approaching 30,000. Just ten years ago the population was well below 5,000. The city’s growth has attracted numerous new businesses, including RSI, Inc. and HEB Plus. Construction is underway for a million square foot retail space that will also include a 210 bed Seton Hospital and professional buildings.  A Kohl’s department store and a CVS Pharmacy are also currently under construction and should be open later this year.
