TIP Strategies Looks for Local Input

for Economic Development Plan

In November of 2006, the City of Kyle hired TIP Strategies, an Austin-based economic development consulting firm, to create a strategic plan and target market study for the community.

As part of the development of this plan, TIP Strategies is asking for your input to make the plan inclusive of the thoughts and vision of Kyle's citizens. TIP Strategies has devolved a short survey designed to give a broad insight into how you think Kyle should develop its economic base.

Specifically, TIP Strategies is developing an analysis of economic challenges and opportunities facing the area, including issues related to demographics, economic base, housing, education, and transportation. Additionally, the target market study will highlight prospects for industry growth. Once complete, the report will outline specific actions the City of Kyle can take to foster a healthy and sustainable economy.

“The City of Kyle is growing rapidly and we need to ensure a healthy economy for our residents and businesses,” states Diana Blank, Director of Economic Development for the City of Kyle. “With our recent announcements regarding the relocation of 70 high-tech jobs with RSI, Inc. from Austin to Kyle and the groundbreaking for the new HEB grocery, we know we’re on the right track and are eager to prove additional opportunities will come our way.”

TIP Strategies expects to spend four months gathering and analyzing data about Kyle and its role in the region. During this time, TIP staff will meet with local stakeholders and create a report tied to an implementation plan for Kyle’s economic development efforts.

“With continued growth along the I-35 corridor, Kyle is in the position to capitalize on the community’s ideal location,” says Sean Garretson, AICP, principal with TIP Strategies and manager of the Kyle project.

Kyle’s many attributes include the planned regional commuter rail stop, the community’s close proximity to rapidly growing Texas State University, continued healthcare growth in surrounding communities such as San Marcos and New Braunfels, and the growing residential base along the entire Austin-San Antonio Corridor to support additional commercial development.

The City of Kyle received a Recognition of Merit/Economic Development Award from the Texas Economic Development Council (TEDC) at their annual conference on September 28, 2006, in Houston Texas. The City of Kyle was recognized as one of five finalists among cities with a population between 15,001 and 40,000 for its progressive transportation plan, business incentive program and its innovative approach to managing the city’s infrastructure development during this period of rapid growth.
