Goforth Rd. Construction Information

Construction work on Goforth Rd. between Elmhurst and Blue Stem, as well as from Steeplechase Drive to Bunton Creek Rd. will continue for several months. This work is part of the 2013 Kyle Road Bond package passed by Kyle voters.

Work on the road began in May, but rain and utility line relocation caused some delays to the schedule. The City of Kyle prioritized the section of road in front of the school, however, the continuing construction will impact traffic in that area.

School for Hays CISD is starting up again August 22. With parents dropping off students, buses coming in and out of the area and construction equipment, road barricades and signage, we know that the area near Fuentes Elementary may be a bit confusing.

Note that during peak school hours, from around 6:45 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. Monday through Friday, vehicles exiting the school will only be able to turn right and then will need to turn right on Brent Ave. heading west. This is a safety precaution to ensure we minimize the chance of accidents or other issues.

For the first few days of school, and potentially for up to two weeks, first responders will be on scene to help direct traffic.

We strongly advise drivers to not attempt to turn left off Brent in an effort to head back to Goforth. Our engineering and safety team believes this will actually add to the congestion and create additional traffic issues.

The intersection of Goforth and Brent is now temporarily a four-way stop. This will also help with traffic control.

A new sidewalk is on the east side of Goforth in front of Fuentes. There is a designated crossing walk in front of the school and a Hays CISD crossing guard will be on hand. The road contractor poured the remaining concrete to connect the new sidewalk at the intersections of Brent and Steeplechase.

To help alleviate traffic and promote safety, we encourage families to consider the following:

Walking — Depending on the distance to school from your home and the weather, walking your child to school may be a fun option. It's both family time together, good exercise and a great opportunity to connect with your child.

Carpooling – Minimizing the number of vehicles in the area by the school will help with traffic control and safety. Arranging a neighborhood carpool can be a great way to get kids to school while also promoting safety and reducing traffic near the affected area.

Bus service — for those families who live in an area that has bus service, we encourage you to take advantage of that option.

Below are two maps that help illustrate the various detours in the area along with available routes near the school. We also created a short video to help illustrate the situation

Your cooperation and understanding as we complete the road work is greatly appreciated. Our goal is to keep everyone safe, minimize traffic congestion and mitigate stressful situations. By following posted signs and traffic control directions, we believe everyone will have a more pleasant experience.
