City of Kyle Parks Getting Upgrades

Your favorite City of Kyle park, or parks, will be getting some long awaited upgrades over the next three or four months. The upgrades include shade structures over playscapes, new turf and irrigation for ball fields, and much more.

Work is scheduled to begin the first week of November at Steeplechase and Waterleaf Parks when the football and baseball fields are prepared for new turf and irrigation. Similar work will begin at Gregg-Clarke Park the week of November 17th.

Some parts of the parks will be closed while work is being done and until grass is established on the sports fields.

“We are excited to be able to provide our citizens with these much needed improvements in our park system,” said Kerry Urbanowicz, City of Kyle Director of Parks and Recreation. “When these projects are complete we’ll be able to provide a quality experience for all residents at all of our parks year round. Unfortunately, there will be inconveniences while the projects are under construction. We ask for the public’s patience over the next several months while we are working to improve our facilities.”

The total cost of the park improvements is $395,000 and is part of the city operating budget approved by the city council for FY 2014-2015.

“The City of Kyle has experienced some lean years recently,” said Kyle Mayor Todd Webster. “However, we can now look carefully at the revenue being generated by our growth and allocate some of that money into our city facilities, programs and services and improve the quality of life for our residents. We are working hard to keep our city one we can be proud of and this is a big step in that direction.”
