As the newest elected councilmember, Michelle Lopez will be serving as City Council District 1 Representative, an at-large district of Kyle. Since 1998, Ms. Lopez has been an active resident and member of Kyle’s community. Her involvement and leadership roles in a variety of community organizations and committees have helped her prepare for her latest responsibilities as a city councilmember. Additionally, Ms. Lopez has pledged her commitment to fulfill those responsibilities to secure Kyle's prominence in the state of Texas.
A native of Fort Worth, Texas, Ms. López has been a long time advocate of higher education. So much so, that not only has she dedicated herself to serving these institutions for over 14 years, but has also led by example as she is currently a doctoral student in Higher Education Administration at Texas A&M University. She holds a B.S. in Government from Texas Woman’s University and a M.Ed. in Counseling and Guidance with an emphasis in College Student Affairs from Texas State University-San Marcos.
Her experience in higher education has included management roles in the areas of campus activities, leadership development, Greek life, college union administration, and residence life. In addition, Ms. Lopez has taught graduate and undergraduate courses encouraging future generations of students to utilize their leadership skills and talents within and beyond university life.
Her professional memberships include: the American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education (AAHHE), Texas Association of College and University Student Personnel Administrators (TACUSPA), and Association of College Unions International (ACUI).
Ms. López’s service history includes:
- Chair, Kyle City Charter Review Commission (2005)
- Commission Member, Hays County Historical Commission (2005-2007)
- Board Member, United Way of Hays County (2007-present)
- Treasurer, The Trails Homeowners' Association (2005-present)
- President Elect, St. Anthony Marie Claret Ladies Altar Society (2007-2009)
- Secretary, St. Anthony Marie Claret Pastoral Council (2004-present)
- Chair, Diocese of Austin Capital Campaign for St. Anthony Marie Claret parish (2006)
- First Vice President, Former Students Association of Texas Woman's Univ. (2005-2007)
- Second Vice President, Austin Alumnae Panhellenic Association (2005-2006)
- Secretary, Austin Alumnae Panhellenic Association (2006-2007)
Ms. Lopez enjoys traveling and is married to Ruben, her husband of 10 years. They are proud parents of their two adorable furry children, blue heelers, Jake and Samantha.
