Jury Duty

City of Kyle Texas Official Website

Potential jurors are randomly chosen from the voter register's list that the court orders from the Hays County Election Office every two years. Names are double checked against the utility accounts to make sure that either the person still resides within the City and the address is within the City's jurisdiction. Once the name is chosen it is marked off the voter register's list so that person will not be chosen again.

If you have been selected for jury service in the Kyle Municipal Court, you will receive a notice in the mail detailing the time and day you are required to appear. Kyle Municipal Court is held in the Kyle City Hall located at 100 W Center St, Kyle, Texas.

The Judge of the Municipal Court recognizes that jury service entails an imposition on the citizens called for jury service. We have a reporting method intended to minimize this burden.

You will also find enclosed in your packet a JUROR INFORMATION form. This is needed for the jury selection process. Please complete this form and return it in the self addressed envelope. If you are claiming an exemption, please indicate it in the JURY SUMMONS and complete the “Affidavit for Exemption” at the bottom of the summons; the exemption must be notarized.

The Jury Summons is a legal notice. If you fail to report to City Hall you will be in violation of State Law. Violation of this law is punishable by a fine of $100.00.

Exemptions

The following person may by Statute, AND NO OTHERS, claim an exemption from jury service if the person wishes to do so:

•Person over (70) seventy years of age;
•Persons who have legal custody of a child under the age of (10) ten years if jury service by that person would necessitate leaving child or children without adequate supervision;
•All students of public or private secondary schools;
•Every person who is enrolled and in actual attendance at an institution of higher education.

EXCUSES FOR OTHER REASONS SHOUD BE PROPOSED TO THE JUDGE AT THE TIME OF JURY CALL.

IF YOU WISH TO CLAIM A STATUTORY EXEMPTION, YOU MUST COMPLETE THE AFFIDAVIT AND EITHER PRESENT BY PERSON OR MAIL TO THE MUNICIPAL COURT IN THE ENCLOSED ENVELOPE IMMEDIATELY
