Summer will soon be under way, and with the hot Texas weather many people will head to the local pools, rivers, and lakes.  While water activities are a great summer pastime, it is important to be safe in and around water.  According to the American Red Cross, drowning is the fourth most common cause of death from unintentional injury in the United States.  The Center for Injury Prevention and Control reported that 782 children age 0 to 14 years died from drowning in 2003, and a recent study by the National Safe Kids campaign reported that nine in ten drowning-related deaths occurred while a child was being supervised by an adult.

The following are safety precautions that the

Kyle Pool encourages everyone to take:

  • Always swim with a buddy.
  • Do not depend on floaties or inflatable rings to keep children safe in the water.
  • Do not use a swimming pool as a babysitter. Watch your children at ALL times in and around the water.
  • Take advantage of swimming lessons and water safety courses in your area.
  • Obey the lifeguards.  They are there to prevent and respond to emergencies, not to babysit.
  • Take heed to warning signs and policies posted around the facility.
  • Take time to review pool rules before swimming.
