This Park Improvement Project began in 2003 when the City of Kyle, Hays County Park Grant Program and private donations from McCoy's Building Supply Center and LCRA, raised $445,000 to turn a seldom used piece of flood plain into a beautiful 31 acre Regional Park on the east side of IH-35. Steeplechase Park is located between Lehman Road on the east, Goforth Road on the west, Steeplechase Subdivision on the north and Prairie on the Creek on the south. The Plum Creek runs through southern portion of this park.
The Park Improvement Project was divided into three phases. Each phase was roughly one year to complete. A third of the total funding was received during each phase.
(Approved Site Development Plan)
Phase one included the Master Plan, Site Development and Engineering. This Phase also included building a park road nearly a quarter of a mile long. Bringing underground utilities, water, waste-water and electricity, to the site was also included in phase one. (Click here to see progress)
Phase two was the most fun to work on. This phase included the covered pavilion with restrooms, re-locating existing playscape and adding a large new playscape and cover, construction of an 18 hole championship disc-golf course, a picnic/bbq area, sand volleyball court and parking. Phase three is the final phase. The projects during this phase included trails, landscaping, another picnic/bbq area, resurfaced basketball court with 6 baskets, benches around park and improvements to the existing ball fields. This final phase concludes with the "Re-Dedication and Ribbon-Cutting" ceremony, scheduled to take place 11:00am, Saturday, September 15, 2007. (Click here to see progress)
