The Latest Construction Updates:
October 4, 2012 - Phase 1 complete! With future funding, Phase 2 will add and increase to the current features and amenities.
October 3, 2012 - The railing goes on the fishing pier. This is the last item to be completed in this first phase of development of Lake Kyle.
September 26 - A local store sent trees out to Lake Kyle to meet landscaping requirements with a new store they opened. 30 large sycamore trees were delivered and the Parks crews worked to plant them around the amphitheater and along the bank of the lake. This will provide shade to all while near the water.
July and August - Kyle Girl Scout Troop 1008 completed a service project at Lake Kyle by securing and planting over 100 trees, plants and bushes. These included oaks of several varieties, magnolias, crepe myrtle and sycamores. What a difference these trees made.
June 28, 2012 - Covered pavilion getting stone border. Electricity and water to pavilion coming soon. The foundation of the first phase of the fishing pier is nearly complete. Future expansions to this pier and additional piers are in the plans for phase 2.
June 18, 2012 - Foundation poured for covered pavilion, crane delivered that will set posts for fishing pier and more signs were put out.
April 21, 2012 - Earth Day projects included the planting of donated landscaping: 7 oak trees and 10 crepe myrtle. 18 pallets of grass were laid on the amphitheater as well, but the rain stopped and turned the grass brown.
February 24, 2012 - Crews are pouring the last sections of concrete around building and sidewalks. The playscape is getting final touches and picnic tables and benches are installed. Work is beginning on the front entrance gate and the cedar split-rail fence was installed. Rain-water collection system gets final work and the signs have been ordered.
February 17, 2012 - Staff installed the surveillance camera system, some furniture and fixtures and the phone/internet system. Crews installed the reception desk and rainwater capture tank. Finish ground work was completed around the building, prepping for turf and hydro-mulch. Building passed final inspection - complete move in of park staff next week.
February 10, 2012 - The week was rained out for the park and lake construction projects but the building was deemed ready for inspection and walk-through. The inspection report had 7 items identified and the walk-through had a few touch up's marked. Temporary certificate of occupancy was issued allowing move in to begin in the new Parks Headquarters.
February 3, 2012 - With heavy rains and major flooding of the lake, all park construction has been stopped. Water is finally receding back into "full" lake condition. The Parks Headquarters building is nearly complete with final inspection scheduled next week.
January 20, 2012 - Completed this week: Fishing pier bulkhead, setting electric pole (thanks PEC), ceiling tiles, bathroom tile and fixtures, trails to playscape, horseshoe and washer pits, rainwater collection tank foundation and rough grading of front parking areas.
January 9, 2012 - Interior walls were textured and painted, wiring of lights and plugs were completed
January 2, 2012 - The parking lot was prepped and paved, lines painted for parking and main trail to lake and pier were completed
December 19, 2011 - Siding is complete and roofing goes up
December 10, 2011 - Siding goes up that gives the building a "log cabin" appearance
November 28, 2011 - Roof rafters go up, main trail from park headquarters to lake and pier get formed, horseshoe and washer pits take shape and the final contouring of the amphitheater get laid out
November 15, 2011 - Framing of the parks building started
November 14, 2011 - Amphitheater and trails started being cut
November 2, 2011 - Building foundation poured
October 24, 2011 - Utilities getting placed to site
October 17, 2011 - Building pad site being built up and parking lot being cut
October 10, 2011 - Earth began moving and work began
October 7, 2011 - Equipment arrived on site
October 3, 2011 - Pre-Construction meeting with City Staff and Contractor.
September 29, 2011 - Building plans submitted for review and approval.
