World Autism Awareness Day Proclamation
Whereas, World Autism Awareness Day was designated by the United Nations in 2007 in an effort to end stigmatization and discrimination against those with autism. The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities recognizes the right of persons with disabilities to independence of person and to individual autonomy; and
Whereas, All are encouraged to wear blue and light up your home or business in blue in order to support World Autism Awareness Day. The color blue is internationally recognized as a symbol of hope, and support for World Autism Awareness Day; and
Whereas, Autism Spectrum Disorder is characterized by deficits in communication, social interaction, and restrictive repetitive patterns of behavior; and
Whereas, These characteristics may present in a wide variety of ways and to different degrees of severity and can cause the individual with an Autism Spectrum Disorder to have lifelong challenges relating to people, objects and events; and
Whereas, Children, youth and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their families can benefit from community support and, with this assistance, an increasing number of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder are able to live and work independently.
NOW THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Kyle, Texas, does hereby proclaim April 2, 2023, as
“World Autism Awareness Day”
and encourage everyone in the City to wear blue and light it up blue!
