The Center Street Quiet Zone Group consists of 5 Union Pacific Railroad Crossings including Roland Lane, Opal Lane, South Street, Center Street, and N. Burleson Street. Once all 5 crossings have had the required improvements made and pass final site inspections, the quiet zones will go into effect.


UPDATE as of Feb. 15, 2024:

According to Union Pacific representatives, the Quiet Zone Group that includes five street crossings with Union Pacific tracks including Roland Lane, Opal Lane, South Street, Center Street, and N. Burleson Street is set to be activated Saturday, Feb. 17, 2024.  

Due to Union Pacific employee shifts, there could be an occasional horn sounded as the employees get accustomed to the  change in their daily work routines.

 

Status Updates

Update as of January 2024:

The City of Kyle is scheduled to do a final site inspection this coming Tuesday, Feb. 6. If the city passes the final inspection, the target date for the horns not to be sounded is Feb. 19. I hope this info helps!

Update as of June 2023:

  • Work began June 12th on Center Street
  • Center Street EB Detour to begin June 22nd
  • Project estimated to be completed early August 2023

Update as of Feb 2023:

On Thursday, Feb. 8, 2023 Roland Lane at the I-35 Southbound Frontage Road will be reduced to one lane for median work to be done in the proposed Railroad Quiet Zone. 

Drivers are asked to follow detours and obey traffic warning signs and flaggers.
