Juneteenth Celebration

KYLE, TEXAS – The City of Kyle invites community members to celebrate Juneteenth, when the Emancipation Proclamation was enforced by the Union Army in Texas, freeing the last enslaved Black Americans, during two events in June.

Juneteenth Celebration & Kyle Market Days:

On Saturday, June 10 the City of Kyle Parks and Recreation Department will host their Juneteenth Celebration alongside the first Kyle Market Days of 2023.

This event includes live performances by Nia’s Daughters Movement Collective, a multigenerational group of like-minded Black women who perform culturally competent dance works while telling the stories of Black women and girls; Shaakir, a saxophonist with a smooth, soulful sound whose first album landed national recognition and a lengthy tour with the Armed Forces in the U.S. and abroad; and Anthony Davis, also known as General Granger, the United States Civil War Officer, who will re-enact the reading of the Juneteenth Proclamation originally delivered on June 19, 1865.

The celebration will happen in conjunction with Market Days which includes local vendors, arts and crafts, farm-to-market items, food, live music and more. Kyle Market Days take place on the second Saturday of each month (except September) from June to November at Mary Kyle Hartson Park from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
