Seed Library

A glowing seed, Kyle Public Library Seed Library

What is a seed library?

A seed library is an institution that lends or shares seeds.

Who can use it?

All Kyle Public Library patrons are welcome to take seeds from the seed library!

Our purpose is to spread seeds to the public, preserve plant varieties, and support local gardening.

Why it matters?

Seed libraries promote sustainability, self sufficiencey, food security, and community exchange!

Our Seed Library was begun with the intention of supporting our community and local environment by nurturing local gardeners and seed savers.

Seeds are small but contain immense potential for physical and cultural sustenance. Seed saving and sharing can increase biodiversity while developing seed stock that is more resilient and well suited for local climate and soil.

How to use the seed library

The Seed Library is self service. You can take up to 5 packets of seed per visit. (These seeds are for your use and you do not have to return them.)

We encourage patrons to donate harvested seeds or packets of purchased seeds that are suitable for the collection, though this is not required to use the Seed Library. Find information about how to donate seeds from our Seed Donation information packet.

Thank you to the Hays County Master Gardners, Central Texas Seed Savers, and all those that have shared their knowledge and resources to make this Seed Library possible!
