Notice of exemptions for City of Kyle Feb. 2016 annexation process

City of Kyle annexation process 2016

The City of Kyle recently began annexation procedures for a portion of land currently located in the Kyle extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ). Property owners inside the boundary of the proposed annexation area, as verified by Hays Central Appraisal District records, received their notice of annexation via certified letter in the month of February of 2016.

As was offered in the notification letter, those property owners slated for annexation who currently qualify for a state tax exemption for agriculture, forestry, or wildlife management land uses, are eligible to enter into a development agreement with the city that would conditionally exempt their property from the terms of full municipal annexation.

There have been a number of ‘frequently asked questions’ and similar inquiries from residents with existing agriculture exemptions who have received a draft development agreement that will exempt them from the terms of full annexation this coming April. In response to these requests, the City of Kyle has revised the initial draft document to include some of the most-often requested concessions. New, revised drafts have been mailed via U.S. Mail to all exempt property owners. A copy of the revised draft is also attached as a supporting document.

Should you wish to continue your tax exempt status following the city's annexation, and therefore exempt your property from full annexation, please make your request known in one of the following ways:

1. By calling the city at (512) 262-3959

2. Emailing planning@cityofkyle.com

3. Visiting City Hall in person and requesting to speak with the Planning Department, or

4. Writing a letter addressed to Planning Department, City of Kyle, Texas, 100 West Center Street, Kyle, Texas 78640.

The deadline for submissions of the finalized development agreement is March 25, 2016, so please do not delay.

If you are unsure of your property's tax status, or would like more information about your property's eligibility for an agriculture exemption, contact the Hays County Office of the Tax Assessor at (512) 393-5545.

NOTE: There is a public hearing during the upcoming Kyle City Council meeting regarding the annexation on March 15, 2016, at Kyle City Hall. Visit www.cityofkyle.com to see the agenda, which will be posted by 5 p.m. March 11 in accordance with state law.
