Mayor Pro Tem Rick Koch Recognized for Uber Kyle $3.14 Program

KYLE, TEXAS – Mayor Pro Tem Rick Koch’s leadership in providing transportation options for City of Kyle residents through the Uber Kyle $3.14 Program earned him a spot on the October 2021 Top Ten list by Rising LoneStars.

Each month the Rising LoneStars Team reviews thousands of local news articles to identify local elected officials who go above and beyond. Mayor Pro Tem Koch earned a spot on the October list after the Kyle City Council voted to expand the Uber Kyle $3.14 program in September to more trips per month and more service locations.

The City of Kyle, in partnership with Uber, launched the Uber Kyle $3.14 program in October 2020 to provide city-subsidized rideshare options to all Kyle residents and visitors. The program issues riders a monthly voucher through the City of Kyle mobile app. Each ride is subsidized for up to $10 by the City of Kyle, after riders pay the first $3.14. Riders are responsible for any charges or fees that go over the $10 City subsidy and initial $3.14.

The newly expanded program increased monthly trips from eight trips per month to 10 trips per month, expanded the service area, and now provides one round-trip from Kyle to the Austin Veterans Administration, 7901 Metropolis Dr., for $3.14 as well as two one-way trips to and from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport per person, per month for 31.4% of the ride cost.

The Uber Kyle $3.14 program also offers Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles through UberWAV for the same rider cost of $3.14. Riders can choose the UberWAV option when retrieving their city voucher and setting up their trip.

Kyle is growing at a record pace and is set to overtake San Marcos as the fastest-growing city in Hays County. Mayor Pro Tem Koch said the Uber Kyle $3.14 program is promising in a city like Kyle because of the growth and the opportunities it allows for local businesses.
