KYLE, TEXAS – On Friday, Sept. 17, the City of Kyle held   the groundbreaking for the Public Safety Center.

Approximately 150 members of the local law enforcement and community attended the event to celebrate the initiation of this highly anticipated facility.

The event featured an opening prayer by Police Chaplain Pastor Curl and remarks by Mayor Travis Mitchell, Mayor Pro Tem Rick Koch, Council Member Dex Ellison, Council Member Robert Rizo and Police Chief Jeff Barnett.

The Public Safety Center is 64,000 square foot project that will grant room for the Kyle Police Department to grow over the next 20 years and beyond.

“To so many, we say thank you” Council Member Robert Rizo said. “Thank you for your commitment to make this Public Safety Center what it is and what it will be for years to come.”

In addition, the facility will provide space for an Emergency Operations Center (EOC). An EOC will establish a central commander center and allow for collaboration with surrounding counties and authorities during critical times.

The Public Safety Center will allow the Police Department to expand its services over time with dedicated space to:

  • Improve emergency response times;
  • Accommodate victims or residents experiencing trauma as a result of crime;
  • Create an investigations suite and canine unit;
  • Manage evidence processing and storage;
  • Increase officer training and recruitment:
  • Pursue Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) accreditation; and,
  • Expand community-based programs and mental health services.

The facility will also provide immediate, temporary space for ancillary public safety functions, including Communications, Information Technology and City Administration, until the Police Department requires the full building.

Kyle voters passed Proposition A, the City’s $37-million bond proposal for a Public Safety Center, in 2020 with a majority of votes. Funding from the passed bond finance the design, construction and equipping of the new Public Safety Center that is estimated to open in 2022 and will serve residents for the decades to come.

The Public Safety Center has been made possible through partnerships with Bartlett Cocke General Contractors, PGAL, AG|CM.
