City of Kyle to Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with Squeezebox Market Days, La Familia Pop-Up Museum and More

KYLE, TEXAS –– The City of Kyle invites the community to join us in celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month from Friday, Sept. 15 to Sunday, October 15 at several events throughout the city.  

Squeezebox Market Days on Deiz y Seis 

The Kyle Parks and Recreation Department invites the community to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at the 2023 Squeeze Box Market Day on Saturday, Sept. 16, Deiz y Seis, from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Mary Kyle Hartson Park, 101 S. Burleson St. 

The Squeeze Box Market Day is a free event showcasing music that prominently features the squeezebox — also known as the accordion. This event will also feature Kyle Market Days vendors. Attendees are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs and coolers to enjoy great music and local arts and crafts, food and farm-to-market vendors.

La Familia Pop Up Museum  

On Saturday, Sept. 16, the Krug Activity Center at Mary Kyle Hartson Park, 101 S. Burleson St., will host a Pop-Up Museum event entitled “La Familia” from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.  This exhibit will celebrate the art, culture, and history of Hispanic Heritage in Kyle by showcasing special items from local families that have lived in the city for generations.  

Community members are invited to come see the history of local Kyle Families, explore the stories of local citizens who made contributions to everyday life in our city for decades, and examine pictures, artifacts, artwork, and music of Kyle’s La Familia.  

Dialogue for Peace and Progress – Celebrating Hispanic Heritage 

The community is invited to join the City of Kyle for the Dialogue for Peace and Progress 2023 – Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month on Friday, Sept. 22 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Kyle City Hall, 100 W. Center St. 

The Dialogue for Peace & Progress is an event series that works to join community members and leaders for open and honest conversations to raise awareness and, if necessary, facilitate change in the City of Kyle. Kyle City Council Members Yvonne Flores-Cale and Daniela Parsley will be moderators for this panel. 

The City of Kyle is recruiting a group of panelists from a multitude of perspectives and backgrounds to speak during the discussion. If you are interested in being a panelist for the dialogue, please fill out the webform by Friday, Sept. 15.

Kyle Public Library Celebrates Hispanic Heritage 

For Hispanic Heritage Month, the Kyle Public Library will host Fiesta de las Flores on Saturday, Oct. 7 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., which will include crafts for kids, refreshments, food, dancing, music and storytime. 

On Saturday, Sept. 23 they will host a matinee showing of Pan’s Labryinth (R) at 12 p.m. at 550 Scott St. 

Additionally, they will have a book display available to check out including Hispanic works and authors. They will also continue to host a bilingual storytime on Friday mornings at 10:30 a.m.

September Movie in the Park 

Join us for a showing of Encanto (PG) at Gregg-Clarke Park, 1100 W. Center St., on Friday, Sept. 22 at 7:30 p.m. 

Participants are encouraged to bring something to sit on, blankets and chairs are allowed. Personal food and coolers are also allowed. Pets are allowed but must remain on a leash. 

Movies in the Park are free. No registration is required, but parking is limited so people are encouraged to arrive early in order to guarantee a spot.
