KYLE, TEXAS - This July, join the City of Kyle in recognizing National Park and Recreation Month, a time to celebrate the selfless, passionate and essential work of park and recreation professionals who provide services that are vital to a healthy community.

Kyle City Council observed National Park and Recreation Month through a proclamation made during their regular meeting on Tuesday, July 7.

“July is the perfect time to highlight all the benefits park and recreation departments provide in communities all across the country, but also right here in Kyle,” Parks and Recreation Director Mariana Espinoza said. “Our parks and recreation department works to positively impact the quality of life of all residents. They work to provide residents a way to connect to nature through our parks and trails, which is more important now than ever with practicing social distancing. And they strive to do all this because parks and recreation professionals are passionate about their communities.”

The City of Kyle Parks and Recreation Department has planned a variety of virtual and socially-distanced activities for residents of all ages and abilities throughout the month — including a virtual photography contest, a virtual fishing tournament, a scavenger hunt and a virtual 5K.

The Virtual Parks & Trails Photography Contest runs from July 5-11. Residents that photograph Kyle parks, trails, flora or fauna can submit photos to parks@cityofkyle.com by midnight Saturday, July 11 for a chance to be to be featured on Kyle Parks and Recreation’s social media pages and in the 2021 Programs Activities Guide. Five winners will be selected on July 13.

The Parks and Recreation Department will be holding the Virtual Fishing Tournament from July 12-18. Participants can fish at either Lake Kyle or Linebarger Lake and take pictures of their biggest catches of bass and catfish. Submit photos via email to sboyer@cityofkyle.com. Participants should have a valid fishing license and all fishing is catch and release.

A Scavenger Hunt for the entire family will be held from July 19-25. Working together and using a camera phone, participants must capture and collect as many of the items listed at https://bit.ly/PARDList. Send the completed list to parks@cityofkyle.com by midnight on July 25. All entries will be entered in a drawing for a Parks and Recreation gift bag.

The final event for National Parks and Recreation Month is the Virtual 5k held on July 26-31. Participants can walk or run at their own pace on any of the trails in Kyle. They can track their progress and send pictures to sboyer@cityofkyle.com of their 5k journey through nature.
