KYLE, TEXAS – The City of Kyle invites the community to take part in honoring members of our armed forces, first responding units, and our fallen veterans during two Memorial Day ceremonies on Monday, May 29 and events throughout May.

The first ceremony, hosted by the City of Kyle and Kyle VFW Post 12058 begins at 10 a.m. at Heroes Memorial Park and includes an invocation, the singing of the Star Spangled Banner, remarks by Hays County Veteran Services Officer Jude Prather, an Honor Guard, and the playing of Taps.

The second Memorial Day ceremony, hosted by the City of Kyle, will begin at sunset (approximately 8:20 p.m.) and includes the playing of TAPS and a reading of the names of Kyle fallen Veterans. Residents are encouraged to join us in honoring our fallen service members at Heroes Memorial Park, located at the corner of FM 1626 and Kohler's Crossing, throughout the day. The park will be open and available as a place to reflect, mourn and celebrate the many service men and women who are no longer with us.

On Saturday, May 20, in honor of U.S. Armed Forces Day, the City of Kyle will give active Veterans who present military ID a free gift at the Kyle Fair Information Booth. Those wanting to honor our active duty military members are also invited to visit Heroes Memorial Park, located at the corner of Kohler's Crossing and FM 1626, which will also be decorated for the occasion.

In recognition of our first responders and Veteran community, the City of Kyle Parks and Recreation Department will host free breakfast days at Heroes Memorial Park at 9:30 a.m. on the following dates to honor our local heroes:

  • Police Week Monday, May 15
  • EMS Week Monday, May 22
  • Fire Week Monday, October 2

Military Appreciation Month runs May 1 through May 31. It is a month-long observance dedicated to people who are currently in the military or have resigned from duty.  Heroes Memorial Park, located in Kyle, pays tribute to U.S. military Veterans, first responders and community heroes through an educational, reflective and celebratory experience. The park features a bridge over water, memorial gardens, information about the seven branches of the U.S. military and more. We invite members of the community to visit Heroes Memorial Park during Military Appreciation Month.
