KYLE, TEXAS –– The City of Kyle Parks and Recreation Department invites the community to the groundbreaking of the Post Oak Community Garden, the City of Kyle’s first community garden on Friday, May 26 from 8 – 9 a.m. at Post Oak Park, 201 Goddard and to apply to be a part of the newly formed Community Gardens Committee.

The groundbreaking will include a small ceremony to mark the start of the community garden build and includes a “turning of the dirt” to symbolize a celebratory time for the community.

The final design of the Post Oak Community Garden, which consists of six acres of land off Hwy. 150 East of I-35, aims to have 35 garden plots, including ADA plots, compost bins, restrooms, covered tables, parking and other amenities. The community garden aims to serve over 300 people annually and improve the consumption of fruits and vegetables.

The City of Kyle Parks and Recreation Department is also looking for applicants interested in being a part of the newly formed Community Gardens Committee which will work alongside city staff to organize the planning, implementation and maintenance of the Post Oak Community Garden. Committee duties include providing input on garden design and the operations of the garden, establishing garden rules, securing volunteers and donations, and participating in meetings.

The Community Gardens Committee consists of 12 seats and will meet monthly through March 2024. Applications for vacant seats are being accepted now through Friday, June 2.
