Peace and Harmony Paper Quilt Display

Starting Monday, February 12 the Peace and Harmony Paper Quilt, a community project led by the Kyle Area Senior Zone (KASZ), in partnership with the Kyle Public Library and the non-profit Unforgettable Families and Friends will be on display at Kyle City Hall, 100 W. Center St.

This quilt, constructed out of 120 4x4 inch paper squares or patches, was crafted by community members who focused their square on art, peace and harmony and celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. and Black History Month. Now, the submitted squares and patches are laminated, connected and ready for display.

Community members are invited to see how their artwork came together. The 5x6 foot quilt can be viewed at City Hall during regular business hours from February 12 to February 23. After that, it will be shown at the Buda Black History Celebration on Saturday, February 24.

Black History Month at the Kyle Public Library

The Kyle Public Library will have a book display and scavenger hunt focusing on African Americans and the Arts, the 2024 Black History Month theme. The book display will feature Black Icons in Performing Arts. The library will also be posting book recommendations on social media relating to Black History Month.

The Kyle Public Library will have pictures of Black Illustrators and their works posted throughout the Youth Area for the scavenger hunt that began Saturday, February 3, and goes through Thursday, February 29. Once all images are found, children will receive a small prize at the front desk. The Library will also have a small display of these illustrators’ books that can be checked out.

The Library will also show ‘Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner’ the 1967 Academy Award-nominated romantic comedy during Movie Night on Friday, February 23 at 4 p.m.
