Earth Month Awareness Proclamation

WHEREAS, Earth Day is an Annual Event created on April 22, 1970, and is now celebrated around the world to demonstrate support for environmental protection of resources.  Today the global community faces extraordinary challenges such as environmental degradation, climate change, food and water shortages, and global health issues, and

WHEREAS, plastic pollution is one of the most pressing issues facing our environment and its production negatively impacts human health, pollutes our beaches and landscape, clogs our waste streams, and fills landfills. We can take simple steps to reduce single use plastic items by adopting environmentally sound waste management systems, upcycle more, recycle properly, consume less, buy local and use less chemicals.  

WHEREAS, the clothing industry is one of the most polluting industries due to its high volume and rates of production and produces 10% world carbon emissions and is the second largest consumer of the world’s water supply.

WHEREAS, In the US alone less than 15% of discarded clothing is recycled. We as consumers we can make informed decisions to support innovative and sustainable practices.  We can choose quality over quantity, buy 100% recycled fabric, and purchase secondhand clothing items.

WHEREAS, a clean environment contributes to economic well-being of our citizens; and invigorates our mental capacities, increasing focus, improve productivity and overall quality of life for future generations.

WHEREAS, our planet cannot wait for science and technology alone to solve environmental challenges, collectively we can do more by conserving water and turning off unused electricity and invest in our planet by promoting more sustainable organic harvesting options when purchasing items.

WHEREAS, the City of Kyle encourages every resident to get involved and help in conserving and protecting the environment via green activities, such as recycling, water and energy conservation, tree planting, and to gain environmental education about environmentally friendly companies and advocate for more sustainable policies.

WHEREAS, special Earth Day Month events are offered throughout the City of Kyle Library such as Grand Opening of Seed Library April 22nd from 12-3 and the City of Kyle Parks and Recreation Earth Day Native Plant Give Away at MKP April 22nd from 10-2pm and Kyle Parks and Recreation Earth Day “Let’s Get Back to Nature” Camp Out at Waterleaf Park Event April 22nd.  These events help to encourage residents about what can they personally do to protect the environment and make Kyle a Cleaner and Greener City.

THEREFORE, Be it proclaimed by the City of Kyle, that the month of April 2023 help promote

Earth Day Awareness
