International Women's Day proclamation

WHEREAS, International Women’s Day is celebrated globally on March 8th by those who believe in gender equality and who seek to improve the lives of all women, through cultural, legal, economic, and social change; and

WHEREAS, International Women’s Day celebrates the collective power of women, pays tribute to their achievements, and recognizes the remaining challenges to further efforts for women’s rights and gender equality, encouraging and mobilizing all people to contribute for positive change; and

WHEREAS, The City of Kyle honors the accomplished and visionary women who have helped build our country, including those whose contributions have not been adequately recognized and celebrated; and

WHEREAS, The City of Kyle pays tribute to the trailblazers from the recent and distant past for daring to envision a future for which no past precedent existed, and for building a Nation of endless possibilities for all its women; and

WHEREAS, Kamala Harris is currently serving as the 49th Vice President, the first and highest-ranking female official in U.S. history; and

WHEREAS, Currently there are women serving locally in leadership positions, inspiring the continued work in advancing the rights, opportunities and full participation of women and girls of all backgrounds; and

WHEREAS, On the 111th International Women’s Day, we celebrate and encourage everyone to take actions against gender bias and inequity in support of the 2022 theme of “Break the Bias”; and

WHEREAS, While International Women's Day activity escalates for March 8, prime employers for women maintain a deep and continuous focus on equity, diversity and inclusion all year round.

THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the City of Kyle, that March 8, 2022 should be celebrated as

“International Women’s Day”

in appreciation of the many achievements of the women of Kyle and those across this nation and the world.

Women's History Month proclamation

WHEREAS, The City of Kyle encourages and promotes strong and inclusive communities that recognize and celebrate efforts to bring people together for a greater good and highlight the many threads in our fabric that make it strong and whole; and

WHEREAS, Women’s History Month has its origins as a national celebration in 1981, when Congress authorized and requested the President to proclaim the week beginning March 7, 1982 as “Women’s History Week.” In 1987 after being petitioned by the National Women’s History Project, Congress designated the month of March 1987 as “Women’s History Month.” Presidents have issued annual proclamations every year since celebrating the contributions and specific achievements women have made over the course of American history in a variety of disciplines and fields; and

WHEREAS, The City of Kyle has a rich history of many dynamic and great leaders, community servants, entrepreneurs and business professionals, educators, and more that have made their influence felt and constructed the path for the city we are today. This includes Mary Lucy Kyle Hartson, the daughter of city founder Fergus Kyle, whom at the age of seventy-two was elected mayor of Kyle by a write-in vote in 1937. The great grandmother served for most of 1937 until 1946, and along with the “all woman” city council elected in 1944; and

WHEREAS, The National Women’s History Alliance designates a yearly theme for Women’s History Month and this year’s theme is “Women Providing Healing, Promoting Hope.” This theme is “both a tribute to the ceaseless work of caregivers and frontline workers during this ongoing pandemic and also a recognition of the thousands of ways that women of all cultures have provided both healing and hope throughout history.”; and

THEREFORE, Be it proclaimed by the City of Kyle, that the month of March 2022 should be celebrated as

“Women’s History Month”

in appreciation of the many contributions and achievements by women of Kyle’s community as well joining in commemorating and encouraging the study, observance, and celebration of the vital role of women in American history.
