Kyle Fair A Tex-Travaganza 2024 'Ritas Contest

Does your Margarita get the party started? Are your Fajitas perfectly flame kissed? Are your Ribs the low & slow kind? We are looking to crown our next Ribs, 'Ritas & Fajitas Champions in the Kyle area at the 2nd annual Kyle Fair Tex-Travaganza!

 

Registration Deadline: May 1, 2024 by 12 PM

Please read all Contest Rules & Information prior to registering.

 

This year’s contests are by pre-registration ONLY! Registration for all contests will require a registration fee. Both the application & the fee must be submitted by the deadline in order to be approved. All registrations must be submitted online through this form. Once received, a City of Kyle staff member will review & approve the application. From there a detailed email will be sent to confirm your application & how to submit your payment.

Registration & payment must be received by May 1, 2024 by 12 p.m. Space is very limited & it is required to make payment within 5 days of approval, failure to do so will result in forfeiture of your spot.

Margarita Contest Registration: $75

Registration gets you: 2 Parking Passes & Entry into the 'Ritas Competition

 

Ribs OR Fajitas Contests Registration: $150

Registration gets you: 2 Parking Passes & Entry into either the Ribs or Fajitas Competition

 

Combo Registration:  $175-$250 

'Ritas + Ribs Contest = $175
'Ritas + Fajitas Contest = $175
Ribs + Fajitas Contest = $200
'Ritas + Ribs + Fajitas Contest = $250

Registration gets you: 4 parking passes & Entry into each Competition

 

Prizes: 
The Champion in each contest will win a gift basket with a value between $200 - $350.
People’s Choice winners in each contest will receive a Trophy.

'Ritas Contest Check-in & Setup: Friday, May 17 from 11:30 AM - 3 PM

 'Ritas Contest Judging: Friday, May 17 from 7 - 7:30 PM

'Ritas Contest People's Choice Judging: Friday, May 17 from 7:30 - 10 PM
Event goers will pay $5 for 3 wooden nickels. They will vote by placing the wooden nickels in a sealed container at the check-in booth with Event Staff.

'Ritas Contest Winners will be announced on Saturday, May 18 at 2:30 PM for both the official judging & people’s choice

'Ritas Contest Rules:

  • Participants must be 21 years of age & have proper identification available at check-in.
  • Beverage entries may not be pre-mixed & must be made onsite at your designated spot.
  • Each team is to supply their own ingredients. Garnishes are allowed. Be advised, judges & tasters can inspect ingredients at any point.
  • On the Rocks ONLY. Frozen will not be accepted.
  • All tequila will be provided by our sponsor Z’Tejas, however, you will be required to provide a list of ALL ingredients for your Ritas, in case of allergies.
  • Rita teams will receive a 10x10 space to prepare & serve. Electricity will NOT be provided.
  • Entries must be submitted in the issued container of 48 oz with the ticket provided at check-in.
  • TEAMS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO SELL OR SERVE TO THE PUBLIC, UNLESS WRISTBAND IS VISIBLY SEEN ON THE RECIPIENT.

Fajitas & Ribs Contest Rules & Judging

Ribs Contest Judging Criteria:  Each team will be rated 1-5 (5 being the highest)

Taste – does it hit the taste buds just right?

Tenderness - does it fall of the bone?

Appearance – does it look like I want to eat that rib?

Ribs Contest Check-in & Setup: Friday, May 17 from 11:30 AM - 3 PM

Ribs Contest Judging: Saturday, May 18 from 5:30-6 PM

Ribs Contest People's Choice Judging: Saturday, May 18 from 6:30 - 8 PM

Appearance – does it look like I want to eat that fajita in a tortilla?

Fajitas Contest Check-in & Setup: Friday, May 17 from 11:30 AM - 3 PM

Fajitas Contest Judging: Saturday, May 18 from 1:30 – 2 PM

Fajitas Contest People's Choice Judging: Saturday, May 18 from 2-3:30 PM

Fajitas & Ribs Contest Rules:

  • Each team will consist of a Head Cook & Assistants.
  • All team members must be at least 14 years of age. The Head cook must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Each team must provide their own grill/smoker to be used exclusively by your team within the confines of the designated space. The use of a single cooking device by more than 1 team is prohibited.
  • Only wood fired, charcoal fired, pellet fired, or propane fired cookers are permitted.
  • Each team will receive a 10x20 space. Electricity will NOT be provided.
  • Each team is required to provide their own ingredients including: meat (all fajita meat and ribs are required to be beef), seasonings, sauces, & tools.
  • Each team will be required to provide an ingredient list at all times in case of allergies.
  • US.Foods is an official Sponsor of the event & will be provide serving plates, utensils, napkins gloves for all competitions.
  • Entries to judges must be submitted into containers provided by the City of Kyle. Garnish is optional.
    • Ribs Contest: Each team will be required to provide 1 sample bone to each of the 4 judges.
    • Fajitas Contest: Each team will be required to provide 1/4 lb to each of the 4 judges.
  • All team members will be required to wear shoes, shirts, pants while in the contest area.
  • Each team will be required to respect the rights of other teams. The City of Kyle reserves the right to disqualify any team that is being disrespectful to other teams, participants, or staff at any time .
  • Any outside beverages must be kept within the teams cook site. We encourage you to support the festival vendors.
  • All teams must comply with all local, City, & County Health Food Requirements.

Terms of Acceptance and Signature

I, the undersigned, certify that I am 18 years old or above participating in the City of Kyle Event. I understand that falsification of any information on this form may disqualify me from this event. In consideration of the acceptance of my registration in the City of Kyle Event, I hereby release the City of Kyle, the City of Kyle Parks and Recreation Department, their agents, employees, officers, and servants from any and all damages and injuries which may occur while I am participating in the City of Kyle Event. I certify that I have the legal authority to execute this release on behalf of myself. I also certify that I have received and read this application form completely.

Permission for Photography: The City of Kyle Parks and Recreation Department may use photographs of me to promote the event.

Permission for Medical Treatment: I acknowledge that I have given my authorization for myself to receive medical attention in case of injury or an emergency.

Permission for Equipment Release: I understand that whatever equipment I bring to the event is at my own risk and the City of Kyle is not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged property. I further understand that I will be responsible for any equipment issued to me by the City of Kyle and we will return it to the same person and in the same condition as when we received it.
