KYLE, TEXAS –– Kyle City Council unanimously approved funding for splash pads at Gregg-Clarke Park and Steeplechase Park to be done by Oasis Water Playgrounds of Houston, TX during their Tuesday, April 4 meeting.

“We are thrilled to be able to bring these splash pads to Kyle and to fulfill a need our community has been asking for,” Parks and Recreation Director Mariana Espinoza said. “Splash pads can add life to our neighborhoods while providing a safe, fun place for families to gather and stay cool during the hot summer months.”

Council members approved an additional $125,000 be allotted for the 3,000-square-foot splash pad planned for Gregg-Clarke Park. The increase in funds from the previously allotted $500,000 was approved following two public engagement sessions where community members supported adding features like picnic tables, changing stations, ADA concrete path and walking ways, and increased shading to the designs. The additional funding will come from the Gregg-Clarke Park improvement bond funds.

The Gregg-Clarke Park splash pad is slated to be finished by Summer 2023. Other improvements coming to Gregg-Clarke Park this year include a new scoreboard and flooring at Ash Pavilion, new restrooms, ball field improvements, and the Skatepark which is also scheduled to be completed in 2023.

Council also approved funding to not exceed $495,065 for a 2,300-square-foot splash pad at Steeplechase Park. In February of 2023, City Council approved the reprogramming of $500,000 from the New Northeast capital improvement project to provide funding for the design and construction of a new water splash pad and other associated improvements and equipment at Steeplechase Park. Both splash pads will be fitted with recirculation equipment including pumps, UV and sand filters, to minimize water use.

The Steeplechase Park splash pad is slated to be finished by Summer 2023. Other improvements coming to Steeplechase Park in 2023 include new restrooms, disc golf course improvements, volleyball and ball field improvements, repainting of the basketball courts, new swings, BBQ pit repairs and irrigation around the dog park.
