Victim Services

The Kyle Police Department established a Victim Services position in January 2013. This position was dedicated to positively impacting the quality of life for the citizens of Kyle by assisting victims, survivors, families, neighborhoods, and businesses experiencing crime or trauma.

Since then, this position has expanded to two positions, Victim Services Coordinator and Victim Services Advocate, both of which are part of the Criminal Investigations Bureau. Victim Services Staff are non-sworn employees of the Police Department that work in collaboration with Patrol and Detectives to assist Victims.

There are two major components to the services that are offered by the Victim Services Staff are:

  • Crisis (on-scene) Response/Investigative Support
  • Follow-Up Support

Crisis Response (on-scene) provides emotional support & intervention as close to the time of the event as possible. This intervention may include crisis intervention and stabilization, justice support, personal advocacy, emergency placement in shelters or protective services, information and referrals to other helpful service providers. Working in conjunction with Kyle Police Department's Criminal Investigations Bureau detectives, victim services provide support and follow-up for the following types of crime victims & witnesses but not limited to: family violence, stalking, sex crimes, child abuse, homicides, missing persons, traffic fatalities, and aggravated assaults.

Victim Services activities include assisting victims, putting their victimization in a pro-healing context, crisis intervention, information and referrals (in person and by telephone), justice support and advocacy, personal advocacy, visits (to the home, school, and hospitals), assistance with Crime Victims Compensation, Protective Order applications, court accompaniment, and community debriefings etc.
